45 Celebs Who Chose I Don’t vs. I Do
The majority of us are raised to believe that the end-goal of dating is making the leap to marriage. However, a growing number of celebrities are choosing to find their long-lasting bliss differently. Sure, there are the couples that never walked down the aisle and proved it didn’t damage their relationship. Oprah Winfrey and Goldie Hawn are proof that avoiding the institution of marriage doesn’t doom a relationship. It’s no secret that many celebrity marriages end in divorce for one reason or another. This piece isn’t in favor of giving up on the legal sanctity of marriage, but it is taking a look at the option of choosing an alternative path. With the divorce rate being over 50% in some countries, it’s hard selling the concept to couples who seem happy and well-adjusted without a marriage license. Some might argue that shacking up without making it legal gives one or both partners a ‘hall-pass.’ But if one or both partners are inclined to look outside the partnership, then being married or living together in sin really shouldn’t make a difference.
Sure, we know that marriage doesn’t guarantee a fairy-tale ending. We also know that if you ask two couples about their views on the sanctity of marriage, you’re likely to get 5 conflicting opinions, each containing valid views. We can argue that opting to go the less traditional route might be justified in being less committed to our partner. No matter your opinion, it’s not black and white or clear cut. Let’s see which of these couples are still going strong, which split and which ended up giving into pre-existing norms and officially tied the knot.
Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling
This private couple got together in 2011 on the set of their film ‘The Place Beyond the Pines.’ They welcomed two girls and are extremely private and share practically nothing with the world. They are rarely seen together at industry events and hardly speak of the other when doing interviews.
This only makes us want to know even more about the actors’ successful union. The two don’t feel the need to get married and aren’t discussing their decision publicly. The two were rumored to have been married in 2016, but nothing’s been confirmed. Their IMDB bios state they are still single.
Bo Derek and John Corbett
These two were set up on a blind date in 2002 by friends. Bo, who starred in the 1979 film ’10,’ was previously married to infamous director John Derek, who passed in 1998, didn’t see herself in another long term relationship. That obviously changed when she hooked up with the start of ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding,’ Corbett.
Derek needed a date for an Oscar’s party and soon fell for Corbett. The two didn’t feel the need to make it official, as kids aren’t an issue for either actor. Corbett feels the reason their relationship works is that they’re not looking to get married.
Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell
These two actors originally met in 1966 on a film set, but sparks didn’t fly then. The next time these two met was in 1993 on the set of the film ‘Swing Shift.’ By then, they were totally smitten and have been together ever since. These two are still giving us #relationshipgoals 37 years later and counting.
This couple most likely set the standard for ditching marriage and shacking up. Both actors were previously married before hooking up, so they both checked the box for doing the traditional thing. The two are quick to agree that had they gotten married, they probably wouldn’t have lasted as long as they have. Hawn was quoted in a recent interview “A lasting relationship isn’t about marriage,’ wise words indeed.
Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend
This duo was considered one of the more stable couples in Hollywood during their eight years together. Theron even sported a commitment ring from Townsend, and a wedding wasn’t too far off. The two met on the set of the 2002 film ‘Trapped,’ and were quickly dubbed the hottest couple in Hollywood.
For a short while, at least, they were giving us relationship goals. The split wasn’t amicable and happened after the two returned from a Mexican vacay. The Oscar winner moved on to actor and director Sean Penn, but that too ran its course after several years together. Townsend is linked to Agatha Araya since 2013 and welcomed two children together.
Charlize Theron and Sean Penn
These two talented actors were together between 2013, and 2015 and rumors of engagement were swirling the two from the start. These two hooked up after Theron broke up with longtime bf Stuart Townsend. Penn and Theron seemed polar opposites; he’s brooding and moody, while she’s upbeat and glamorous.
When looking at them walking the red carpets, we thought again that the two seemed destined to spend their lives together. Both are Oscar winners and have an impressive acting roster; being A-listers in the industry, this duo seemed to have what’s needed to make it work. Theron claims the media made much more of their relationship, and while they did date for two years, they weren’t nearly as serious as everyone perceived them to be.
Lauren Hashian and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson
Hashian and Johnson hooked up after his divorce in 2007. They initially met on the set of ‘The Game Plan’ in 2006. Here’s a little trivia, when Johnson divorced his wife Dany Garcia, he hired her as his manager, a position she still holds. Lauren and Dwayne quickly moved in together and haven’t looked back.
The ex-wrestler and mega-successful movie star credits Hashian with helping him during bouts of depression and getting over the shocking death of ‘Fast and Furious’ co-star Paul Walker in 2013. The duo decided to mix things up, by moving in together, having two children, and only getting married in 2019. We can’t get enough of this tough guy’s family life on Instagram and get all mushy watching him ‘You’re Welcome’ with daughter Tiana.
Deborah Eisenberg and Wallace Shawn
These two have been living together for 45 years, longer than most marriages. The couple’s motto is ‘growing old together,’ and that doesn’t necessarily require a wedding license to accomplish. Respected author and playwright Eisenberg met funnyman and aspiring actor Shawn when she an assistant at a literary publication.
They began dating soon after meeting, and Deborah credits Wallace with pushing her into writing. The two have been living together since their mid-20s and are devoted life partners. Shawn is consistently working and is known for roles in such works as ‘Princess Bride,’ and ‘My Dinner with Andre,’ while Eisenberg has written a collection of short stories including ‘Twilight of the Superheroes.’
Jennifer Westfeldt and Jon Hamm
This couple was together for 18 years and enjoying the good life in Hollywood. Hamm gained superstar status with his hit ‘Mad Men,’ while Westfeldt was also no slouch, coming off her hit ‘Kissing Jessica Stein.’ The two considered themselves solid and committed during their years together.
Rumors of trouble began when Hamm’s hit series ended in 2015, and he dealt with alcohol addiction issues, requiring a stay in rehab. The two split officially in 2015. In 2017, in an interview, Hamm was quick to take the blame for their breakup, citing flirting with others and narcissism as some of the factors.
Jane Fallon and Ricky Gervais
College sweethearts since 1984, these two show why marriage isn’t for everyone. Star of ‘The Office,’ Gervais and author Fallon,’ aren’t going the traditional route, they chose not to get married and don’t have kids, and for them, it’s working.
We’re admiring their mutual love and adoration of one another and how quick they are to praise each other in public. Fallon is an acclaimed author and gifted producer who prefers the UK to LA. Fallon explained in an interview about her decision not to have kids and believes it was the right choice for them.
Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale
These actors hooked up in 2012, and from the looks of it, they’re in it for the long haul, even if that doesn’t include a marriage license, although we’re not sure. ‘Bridesmaids’ actress Byrne called Cannavale ‘husband’ on so many occasions; she’s had fans and media questioning if they secretly got married.
Even Byrne’s IMDB biography can’t pinpoint if they went ahead and tied the knot or not. The two, whether married or not, are stable and raising two sons together. The two have acted together in the 2014 film ‘Annie’ and are both super busy, adding to their roster of accomplishments.
Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor
This duo had fans and critics commenting on their romance. These two have been together since 2015 and while they’re happier than ever, although many can’t get over the 32-year age-gap. Respected actress Paulson understands that she and Taylor, also a gifted thespian in her own right, have a non-conventional relationship.
The award-winning Sarah cites the age difference as the reason the two of them work together so well. The two met in 2005 at an industry event, but it wasn’t till 10 years later that they got their timing right. Paulson admits the relationship began after Taylor slid into her DMs. In 2016 the duo made their first arrival as a couple at the Critics Choice Awards.
Ann Acheson and Larry Mullen Jr.
These two have been together since their teens. The U2 drummer, Mullen Jr., and longtime girlfriend Acheson have been going strong for 40 years now. They have three children and don’t see a reason to change things up. These two aren’t so much in the public eye, and other than a solid relationship, there’s not a whole lot out there on this couple.
They did make some waves in 2018 when they took their accountants to court over a $13 million investment loss, claiming bad advice. And even that was settled out of court, so no details are available. Maybe the secret to a longtime relationship, where married or not, might be keeping the relationship private and out of the media glare.
Krysten Ritter and Adam Granduciel
Before Ritter called Granduciel her significant other, she was first a fan, and then the two formed a friendship. Granduciel is currently rocking the music world in his band ‘War on Drugs,’ which is how he got on Ritter’s radar. As a fan of the band, she met the rocker in 2014 at a concert, and within a short time, the duo was dating.
Both are successful in their careers, Granduciel’s band won a Grammy in 2018, and Ritter’s career has been on the rise with hits such as ‘Don’t Trust the B in Apt. 23.’ They became exclusive soon after hooking up, and by 2019 the ‘Jessica Jones’ star gave birth to their son. The two are happy with their status and don’t see the need to make it official.
Mary Louise Parker and Charlie Mars
With an 11-year age-gap, the press wasn’t kind to ‘Weeds’ star Parker and her younger musician bf, Mars. When the actress and mother of two had split from actor beau Jeffrey Dean Morgan, she set her eyes on the musician who was just 34 years old. Cougar comments were quick to follow, along with claims that she was a ‘homewrecker.’
It was reported that Mars was in a long term relationship of his own when he and Parker hooked up. Parker, a fan of the musician, appeared in his ‘Listen to the Darkside’ music video. The actress who admits to following her heart instead of her head, has had a list of high profile relationships, including actors Timothy Hutton and Billy Crudup. Mars and Parker are still living together and appear to be stronger than ever.
Maya Rudolph and Paul Thomas
These two got together in 2001, and while they’re not officially married, comedienne Rudolph has labeled director Anderson ‘Husband,’ early on. The two are extremely private and have only mentioned their relationship in passing. There isn’t much in the media about what led to this love connection.
Their roots together date back to when Rudolph appeared on ‘Saturday Night Live,’ and the ‘Boogie Nights’ director was dating singer Fiona Apple, who also appeared on the show in 2000. Their paths may have crossed then, but this hasn’t been confirmed by either of the parties. What we do know, the couple is still together and share four children.
Amy Adam and Darren Le Gallo
These two met in 2001 in an acting class, and the sparks were immediate between the duo. By 2008 there were engagement rumors, and in 2010 the star of ‘Julie and Julia’ and the actor/artist welcomed a daughter. They did eventually get married 14 years after meeting, but from the looks of it, they were playing house and testing the waters before leaping into marriage.
The couple is relatively private and is rarely spotted together, and maybe that’s why these two are so solid. The lesser-known Le Gallo is an accomplished artist and has dabbled in acting. He is also an avid supporter of his wife’s career. He refers to his partner of nearly 20 years on social media as ‘my better half.’
Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollugh
These smokin’ hot fashion designers and co-founders of ‘Proenza Schuller’ have been together since their days in fashion school. These two got together their senior year at Parsons School of Design and have been going strong ever since, whether in business or their private lives. Considering they live and work together 24/7, it’s not a given that these two would work as well as they do.
Not many couples can deal with pressures from work and their personal life, but these two seem to have figured it out. The duo joined forces in their final year at school, creating a line of clothing that was bought up by the prestigious ‘Barney’s’ chain, and from there, the sky was the limit for this fashion-conscious twosome.
Savannah Brinson and LeBron James
The basketball icon and his partner started out in high-school and have been together since. Brinson was with James long before he was the highest-paid NBA player in the universe, and it looks like it paid off. The two began dating in school, and rumor has it their first date happened at an ‘Outback Steakhouse’ in Akron, Ohio, where they both hail from.
Brinson wasn’t sure what would become of the tallest boy in high school, but she never imagined he’d become the NBA star with an estimated net worth nearing $300 million, as of 2018. The duo shares three children and did eventually tie the knot in 2013.
Robin Roberts and Amber Laign
The anchor of ‘Good Morning America’ Roberts and partner of 15-years Laign have been as steady as the show’s daily weather reports. The duo met on a blind date in 2005, and the attraction was instant for both. Roberts is quick to share sweet moments of their relationship on social media while giving followers heartwarming feelings of couples–goals.
Roberts was in the closet until 2014 and kept her relationship a secret for fear it would affect her career negatively. Once the GMA host came out in a post on Facebook, there was no stopping her. We rooted for this duo during Roberts’ health crisis and cheered when she successfully underwent a bone marrow transplant in 2014. 2014 was also the year the two made it legal and tied the knot.
J. Edgar Hoover and Clyde Tolson
Famous FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover was in the closet with his sexuality but still managed to have a long-term relationship with his assistant Clyde Tolson. At a time when a homosexual relationship was considered perverted, these two kept their attraction to each other hidden. Rumored to have been lovers for 40 years at a time when same-sex marriages were unheard of, this couple is a testament to true love
The couple was affectionately dubbed by friends and co-workers ‘Johnny and Clyde.’ Upon Hoover’s death in 1972, he left the bulk of his estate to Tolson, who never got over his lover’s death. Tolson was reported only to leave the house they shared to visit Hoover’s grave. One wonders had they lived in the 21st century if their relationship would have been more accepted.
Lauren Graham and Peter Krause
These two acted together before starring in the series ‘Parenthood,’ where they played brother and sister. The two initially kept their romance a secret from friends and co-workers, but in 2010 everyone knew these two were smitten with each other.
They first met in 1995 on the set of ‘Caroline and the City,’ but the timing just wasn’t right. Much like her beloved character, Lorelai, on the ‘Gilmore Girls,’ they started out as friends, and Graham couldn’t stop talking when she was near Krause. The two have been an item ever since, and while no plans to marry are on the horizon, these two seem to have what it takes to make it work.
Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber
This couple was together 11 years and we were sure they would stand the test of time. They met in 2005 at the Met Gala and were seen all over NYC soon after. By 2007 the duo was expecting their first child and by 2009 they were parents to two sons.
The family was a regular sight on the NYC scene, out riding bikes with their boys and enjoying family life. No one, but the couple, knows what went wrong. The gifted and award-winning actors were seen together at events, arm in arm, and appearing in love, just weeks before they announced their split. Publicists for the couple made a joint statement in 2016 announcing their breakup while vowing to remain friends while co-parenting their sons.
Zoe Kazan and Paul Dano
This duo chose to live together and raise a family instead of marriage, and it seems to be working well for them. They are very private about their personal lives and don’t respond to questions relating to their relationship. Together since 2007, they had their daughter in 2018.
The couple and daughter reside in NYC, and acclaimed actress and writer Kazan claim marriage isn’t high on her list of priorities. The duo collaborated on the 2018 film ‘Wildlife,’ Dano directed, and the two co-wrote the screenplay, based on the bestselling novel.
Leslie Bibb and Sam Rockwell
These two met in the lobby of the Chateau Marmont Hotel in 2007, and they clicked on the spot. The relatively private acting duo worked together on the 2010 film ‘Iron Man 2.’ Rumors of marriage have been swirling around these two for years, but so far, they appear to be following the motto of ‘if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.’
One of Hollywood’s more stable couples, these two have been known to offer relationship advice and are quick to praise one another. Upon his win of the SAG award for his work in ‘Fosse/Verdon’ in 2020, Rockwell was sure to thank Bibb for her support and refer to her as ‘my beloved.’ Awww, yes, our hearts melted at this too.
Roberta Mastromichele and Matt Dillon
Former teen-idol and acclaimed actor Matt Dillon has been canoodling with choreographer Mastromichele since 2014. The two have been spotted repeatedly over the years visiting Rome, and rumors of engagement were quick to follow. Mastromichele was spotted donning a sparkler on ‘that’ finger, but nothing’s been confirmed.
The two are quick to share their travel pix on the gram, but keep details of their private life to themselves. Dillon has been previously linked to ‘There’s Something About Mary,’ costar Cameron Diaz and model/actress Brooke Shields, among others. As of 2020, Dillon and Mastromichele were still together and still unmarried.
Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner
These two have been an item for some 50 years. As soon as the two met, in the 1970s, they were immediately smitten, and there was no looking back. The two kept their relationship a secret until Tomlin’s mother passed away in 2005, at which time the iconic comedienne came out of the closet.
The ‘Grace and Frankie’ star asserts she wanted to be known for her comedy and acting and not for being a lesbian. Tomlin and Wagner, a writer, director, and producer in her own right, were finally able to live out their dream of getting married and did so in 2013.
Elizabeth Hurley and Hugh Grant
Model Elizabeth Hurley and actor Hugh Grant split in 2000, but that was after 13 years of dating and living together. The two wowed the media and the fans on the red carpet. Watching Hurley stun the crowd in jaw-dropping Versace gowns, while adorable English lad Grant let her have the spotlight was endearing. What was a little less cute was the guffaw of 1995. Grant, who was an international movie star thanks to the hit film ‘Four Weddings and Funeral,’ was arrested for soliciting a prostitute in LA.
The scandal was widespread and was all anyone talked about. ‘Late Night’ host Jay Leno interviewed the actor after the arrest and scored major laughs when he asked Grant, ”What the hell were you thinking?’ Hurley and Grant didn’t break-up right away, but the incident didn’t help, and they did go their separate ways not long after. The two, although no longer together, are still BFFs and always have each other’s back.
Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx
These two kept the media and their fans guessing for years. After her much-publicized divorce from Tom Cruise, Holmes was trying to parent her daughter Suri, while keeping a low profile. Foxx and Holmes reportedly got together in 2013 but were only snapped together in 2016 at a party in the Hamptons. They kept their relationship a secret for several years, yet rumors constantly surrounded the two, despite denials.
In 2017 the two gave their fans what they wanted and were finally snapped holding hands while strolling on the beach. In 2018 the duo showed up together to a Grammys’ related event, and pix of the couple flooded the media. Few details are known about the two, and it’s rumored that in 2019 they quietly went their separate ways. Both have refused to address their status, and it seems like we’ll never really know what went on between these two.
Tyra Banks and Eric Asia
The former supermodel and the Norwegian photographer had so much in common; they were destined to get together. The two met when Asia was a guest on Banks’ reality show ‘America’s Next Top Model.’ They dated for several years and share a son, delivered by a surrogate.
While the relationship didn’t stand the test of time, they did make it work for five years, just sayin’. The two split amicably and are co-parenting their son successfully. They still work together professionally but found living together wasn’t working for them. They parted as friends and speak favorably of the other when asked.
Sandra Bernhard and Sarah Switzer
For fans of Bernhard’s humor, we know the comedienne can be outspoken and somewhat aggressive. But, when it comes to her daughter and live-in gf of over 20 years, Sarah Switzer, she’s a softie and at times, gets downright mushy. This couple first met when Bernhard was interviewed by Switzer for an article but only clicked when they ran into each later on.
Bernhard is known for her roles in comedies such as ‘Roseanne’ and her friendship with Madonna which garnered a few headlines. The funny lady in private leads a pretty traditional life with her partner and daughter and leaves her controversial humor and comments for the stage.
Jessica Lange and Sam Shephard
These two attractive and accomplished actors met on the set of their film ‘Frances,’ and hooking up for them was inevitable. The two never got married but were a solid couple for 26 years that produced two children. Well, to say they were solid might come down to perception. Both admitted to being unfaithful but always seemed to find their way back to each other.
Before these two got together, they were previously married and unsuccessful at it, which explains why they chose to skip a visit to City Hall. Before meeting Shephard, Lange was a long term relationship with ballet dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov, and they also had a child. The couple split in 2009, and Shephard sadly died in 2017 after battling ALS.
Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys
KGB spies, posing as a happily married American couple during the cold war, was the premise surrounding the hit series ‘The Americans.’ This couple took their onscreen love story and minus the espionage and warring countries, and have made it work in real life. The only similarities between the actors and their characters are that they were joined together to do a job and ended up falling for each other.
The series may have ended in 2018, but Rusell and Rhys are still going strong. The two share a child together and aren’t rushing to marry anytime soon. The secret to their relationship depends on who you ask. Russell swears it’s date nights and showering attention on the other, while Rhys cites wine as the key to their success. No matter the reason, these two are working well together, and we’re all for it.
Helena Bonham-Carter and Tim Burton
This eccentric twosome seemed so un-Hollywood that it only made sense when they hooked up. This duo was together for 13 years, worked on six films jointly, and even had two children, yet didn’t see the need to get married. These two view life in totally un-traditional terms, and their relationship was no different. Even at the height of their relationship, the two didn’t feel the need to live together.
Iconic and outspoken filmmaker Burton bought the house next door to Bonham-Carter, and all was well in their world. Many questioned their lifestyle, but it worked for them. The actress has spoken of their 2014 break up and has admitted that not all couples were meant to spend the rest of their lives together. FYI, Bonham-Carter now owns both homes but says her ex is welcome to use it anytime. Talk about conscious uncoupling.
Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Tokla
This literary duo met in Paris in 1907, fell in love upon meeting, and was together for 39 years. Same-sex couples still weren’t accepted in the early 20th century, so the couple had to be discreet. Their love story was written about in Tokla’s memoir, ‘What is Remembered.’ that was meant to be viewed as a cookbook.
Stein, who left the US for Paris in 1903, never looked back and spent the rest of her life in the city of lights. She was friends with Pablo Picasso and Ernest Hemingway and a great novelist in her own right. Stein was widely respected in Paris’ art world and was known for hosting the greatest parties in her salon along with Toklas. Stein lovingly referred to Toklas as ‘wifey.’ The two remained devoted to each other until Stein’s passing in 1946.
Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham
These two set the rules for living together in sin and making it work. These two met in 1986 and by 1992 were officially engaged. So what happened? Nothing, they decided to do things their way and didn’t offer any explanation to their family or fans. In 2017 Winfrey explained why she and Graham didn’t go through with the wedding, and it may surprise you.
According to Winfrey, they just never got around to setting a date or planning a wedding. They were happy with the status quo and didn’t see the need to make it legal. If we agree with Oprah’s mantra ‘When you know better, you do better, ‘ then she may know something the rest of us don’t. They’re still together, and that’s all that matters.
Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins
These two were together 23 years and we were devastated when they split. This iconic couple met on the set of the 1988 film ‘Bull Durham,’ and they instantly hit it off, despite the fact that Sarandon is 12 years older than Robbins. The two were completely compatible and no one saw cracks in their relationship. They lived together from the start and share two sons together.
These two were the benchmark for living together and foregoing marriage, and 23 years together is impressive in anyone’s book. Publicists for the actors confirmed the split and made it clear that no additional comments would be forthcoming, and they were true to their word.
Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick
Not many know this, but Kourt and Scott first laid eyes on each other in Mexico at a party in 2006. This duo’s relationship was played out week after week for years thanks to their reality hit series ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians.’ We saw their highs and lows each and every season. Before they had kids, they were tempted to get married, on a drunken trip to Vegas, but they decided against it at the last minute.
We witnessed Scott struggle with the death of his parents and cope with addiction issues. We rallied around them when they decided to finally split and work at co-parenting their kids. Scott recently broke up with gf Sofia Richie, and we have to admit, we wouldn’t mind seeing Kourt and Scott try again to live happily ever after.
Tina Turner and Erwin Bach
Musical legend Tina Turner dated her beau for 27 years before deciding to make it legal. The German producer and the iconic singer were living together in Switzerland for 15 years before deciding to marry in a civil ceremony. We know how Turner’s first marriage ended, as detailed in her 1986 autobiography ‘I, Tina.’
The book spoke of her life with abusive husband, Ike Turner. The retired singer and her hubby are living a quiet life in Zurich. The ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ singer has battled some health issues, including a stroke and kidney failure in recent years, but appears on the mend.
Winona Ryder and Scott Mackinlay Hahn
After dating in the media spotlight for too long, ‘Stranger Things,’ star Ryder has opted for staying under the radar when it comes to her private life. Founder of eco-friendly Loomstate, Hahn may not be well known in the acting industry, but he’s made a name for himself by creating a fashion brand that is environmentally sustainable.
Together since 2011, the couple enjoys their current status and doesn’t see any reason to get married. This is a welcome change considering the high-profile relationships we got used to with Ryder. She was previously paired with actors Johnny Depp and Matt Damon. This duo prefers to keep their private life private. This could explain why they’re still going strong nearly 10 years later.
Shakira and Gerard Pique
There are so many reasons these two work. For starters, they share the same birthday. Singer Shakira met the Spanish footballer on the set of her music video, ‘Waka Waka,’ in 2010. The two have been together since meeting and are enjoying parenting their two children.
The two, though wildly popular, have been private when it comes to their relationship and keep fans guessing. Shakira credits her strong faith in being a major factor in their relationship. Before meeting Pique, the singer stated she was giving up on the idea of finding the ‘perfect’ guy and doubting her spiritual beliefs, which have since been restored.
Vanessa Paradis and Johnny Depp
By the looks of how things have been going for Johnny Depp lately, he should’ve stayed with French singer and model Vanessa Paradis and saved himself a lot of heartache. These two met in 1998, in Paris, where the actor was filming a movie. Depp fell for Paradis without even seeing her face. He was struck by her backless dress in a hotel lobby and when she turned to face him, it was instant chemistry for both.
They began dating soon after meeting and within a year had their first child. The duo stayed together for 14 years, raising two kids, living mostly in France. They separated 14 years later, and both have declined to comment on the split. We know that Depp next ended up with Amber Heard, and the split was not as quiet as it was with Paradis.
Nicoletta Peyron and John Malkovich
Like many Hollywood hookups, these two met on set, fell in love, moved in together, and started a family. Only they didn’t feel the need to get married. The gifted actor and the then assistant director were both working together in 1989 on the film ‘The Sheltering Sky,’ and the attraction was instant.
When questioned why he chose to remain unmarried, Malkovich stated he tried it once, and it didn’t work out. He also didn’t feel that a bunch of papers was needed to prove his commitment. Considering these two have been together over 30 years, he might be on to something.
Anna Kournikova and Enrique Iglesias
This couple keeps their fans and the media on their toes. In 2001 the tennis champ appeared in the singer’s music video ‘Escape,’ and they’ve been an item from day one. Although Kournikova retired at 21, she accomplished more than most do in a lifetime. She’s won numerous awards, and by the end of her career, she was ranked 8th in the world.
These two graced red carpets but weren’t giving fans info on their relationship; we heard rumors of engagement in 2004. Rumors of a secret marriage and even divorce surrounded this twosome. Here’s what we know; they are still together, Kournikova says marriage is not for her, Iglesias claims they were married and then divorced, and then they welcomed twins to the world in 2018.
Angelica Huston and Jack Nicholson
This Hollywood couple kept us guessing for years about their volatile relationship, and we loved watching it play out in the tabloids. Acclaimed actress Huston first met Oscar-winner Nicholson on his birthday in 1973, and the sparks flew then and there. The ladies’ man had a hard time staying faithful, and rumors of cheating were always in the air.
The two dated on and off from 1973 to 1989. Angelica has publicly admitted she was eager to marry bad-boy Jack, but he wasn’t looking to settle down just yet. The actress admits in her autobiography ‘Watch Me: A Memoir’ that she cried for days on end realizing the romance was doomed. In 1992 Huston married Robert Graham, while Nicholson continued to play the field with a bevy of actresses including Rebecca Broussard and Lara Flynn Boyle.
Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy
This couple was Hollywood magic on-screen and off. The two had a 26-year long relationship, which was widely known in the industry, at a time when marriage was still considered sacred. The actors initially met on the set of their first film ‘Woman of the Year’ but didn’t hit it off right away. The two grew closer as they got to know each other and were truly one of the greatest love stories of all time.
The movie studios were vigilant about keeping their affair a secret, as Tracy was married and wasn’t intending to divorce his devoutly Catholic wife. The two were never able to speak of their relationship publicly. Still, when they appeared in films such as ‘Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner,’ and ‘Adam’s Rib,’ their electric chemistry was undeniable. The two appeared in eight films together and remained a couple till Tracy’s death in 1967.
