Streaming platform Hulu released a teaser trailer for their 10-part docuseries Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers in mid-2022. Directed and executive produced by Antoine Fuqua, the series focuses on the history and legacy of an iconic basketball team, explicitly covering the activities and business dealings that helped the team become a $5 billion empire.

The series features exclusive interviews with players, coaches, and executives, including Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Magic Johnson. The docuseries takes a look at the on-court success of the team and also shows the various conflicts and rivalries that have occurred among company executives over the last 40 years.

When Dr. Jerry Buss, a successful real estate tycoon, acquired the Los Angeles Lakers through a complicated business transaction, it was uncertain how successful the team would be under his leadership.

However, Dr. Buss implemented various changes that would contribute to the team’s success, including introducing dancers and live music and creating a VIP club within the arena, among others. These changes led to more people being willing to join and support the team.

This docuseries differs from HBO’s own series, which premiered in March, in that it features new interviews that provide insight into the intersection of family, business, and power that impacted the team’s legacy.

The docuseries Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers offers an in-depth look at the iconic basketball team’s legacy, both on and off the court. The series also features exclusive interviews and delves into the complex business dealings and family dynamics that have shaped the Lakers into the empire it is today.
