Finding The Utah Jazz Their Last Puzzle Piece

By Shane R

The Utah Jazz looked primed and ready this season to make a push to the NBA Finals. Though they still have that opportunity, we are daydreaming into the 2020-2021 season. Whether the Jazz win or lose this season, they severely need an upgrade at power forward, which is their weakest position.

Aaron Gordon, power forward for the Orlando Magic, is currently on a 2-year deal making $18 million per year. With next season being his last before free agency, Orlando has to decide if the 24-year-old is worth keeping around or not. The Magic may be willing to part with Gordon due to Jonathan Isaac’s emergence and his cheaper contract.

The Jazz may risk a one-and-done scenario if the team goes all in for one more season before Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell get paid. By trading away aging guard, Joe Ingles, and unused center Ed Davis, the Jazz would have to throw in a 1st-Round pick as well. The Jazz would not loose much from their bench and get a true power forward to blossom the light-up making a Conley, Mitchell, Bogdanovic, Gordon, Gobert line-up a scary one.

The Magic would get a pick for the future and not possibly lose Gordon all together. Add veterans Ingles and Davis to the bench, and the Magic could work their way up the Eastern Conference standings. This could be a win-win for both clubs.
